Hola Familia and Friends!!
So this is it I´ve just turned 1 week old as a missionary and the past week has been jammed packed crazy but so incredible!
I´m
in a Latino District (Distrito 105) and honestly I love them all so
much. We have 2 Chileans, 2 Ecuadorians, 3 Peruvians, 1 Urugayan, and 2
Estadounidenses (´MERICANS!!). Yup its Hma. Trujillo whose from Utah but
whose Parents are Mexican, and I, the two gringo is our District...oh
and our entire Zone. The elders in our district are honestly the most
hilarious peóple in the world, if it wasn´t for the tons of food they
feed us here, I would´ve honestly lost 5 lbs purely from laughing. But
the most amazing thing are their stories and testimonies. They are all
the first in their families to serve missions, many had to work hard and
experienced miracles that have granted them the opportunity to serve.
They are all an inspiration to me and make me a better person everday.
My
compañera is Hermana Ramos and while we were both kinda shy with each
other at first, now we are both two crazy peas in a pod. She´s from here
in Lima, so she helps me tons with my Spanish, and teaches me cool
peruvian slang. (CHEVERE!!) Its awesome though because we are so in
synch with each other that when were teaching, one forgets something or
stops, and the other know just where to pick up. Not to mentions she
runs with me during exercise time which is bomb dig.
Anyways
to teaching, because we dont have to learn a language from the first
day onwards we hit the ground running with teaching. They have these
cute little houses at the CCM where twice a day, we go in as a
companionship and get to teach a progressive investigator (whose
actually our teacher but oscar worthy performances haha). The first
lesson Hma Ramos and I were a bit shaky but now we´ve got the hang of
teaching for the person and not just memorizing and repeating the
lesson.
So
anyways I made a name for myself at the CCM the other day by scoring a
rockin´ goal on the latinos in a match of futbol. yeeeeeee that Mexican
blood.
So
today was Pday which was awesome cause we got to go to the Temple!! The
Lima temple is sooooooo pretty and it was a great experience, even
though Hma R and I didnt get to go with the rest of our district. Then
we got to go to this cute LDS store across the street where I got this
cute little scripture case. BUt let me just say that the craziest thing
about Peruvians is their driving! There´s really no cross walks
anywhere, and where there are the little green man crossing the street
is running, because its pretty much a mad dash for you life wherever you
are!!! ON the way back I also got to experience my first Peruvian bus
ride. The bus pulled up to the stop and there looked like there was
standing space for like 5 more people. But nahhh we somehow cramped all
12 of our group in. ON top of that the driver was zig zagging out of
traffick at like 60mph at least. And yes about 10 people on top of that
got on after that! Hermana R was laughing at me the whole time cause my
mind was just blown at the bus man´s people packing skills.
SO
next the food. THERE IS SO MUCH FOOD HERE. I honestly try not to eat
too much but honestly it is so good. THe only thing I would say is that
they dont do spicy here which is what I miss, oh and tortillas. They
have this crazy fruit called Granadilla, that honestly looks like fly
larva but tastes soooooo delicious.
Anyways
the Spirit is so strong here, and I´ve learned so much. Not only about
the gospel, and how to teach, but from the Elders and Hermanas here, how
to truly show Christ-like love. They are some of the kindest people I
have ever met, and their spirits warm my heart every day. The CCM is a
place like no other and I wish I wasnt leaving early next week, but now
more then ever I want to be out in the field serving the Lord and his
people.
Les amos a todos.
